THE JOURNEY BEGINS

My family and I completed a journey back to my former homestead in Oklahoma in October.  My son and daughter were with me, as well as my sister Jane and her husband Charlie, as we walked the streets of Duke, Oklahoma. From there, we stopped by the cemetery outside of town to see the gravesite of my baby sister Betty Louise.

We felt the presence of our sister Sue (pictured with me on the cover of my book) throughout our journey. Sue passed away in early September.  She had so looked forward to journeying with us--and I know she was there in spirit.

Jane and Charlie had to leave early to get back to Oklahoma City, and my son and daughter and I drove to the countryside, across Turkey Creek (Teal Creek in my story), visited an old abandoned house belonging to a neighbor, then stopped for a final look at the site of the tenant farm where I grew up.  It was an amazing, emotional trip.
